OUTREACH & SOCIAL ACTION

The Outreach and Social Action Committee addresses social issues of a local nature as well as on a world-wide scale.

Local initiatives are suggested by Committee members or the congregation or come through our church office.

World-wide issues may be developed as a result of communications we receive concerning various matters which are being undertaken by the United Church as a whole (via The Justice, Global and Ecumenical Relations Unit), or can also be recommended by Committee members or our congregation.

Local Initiatives:

  • Ecumenical Community Services (ECS) - collection of non-perishables to serve the needy of the South Shore.
  • Dans La Rue - collection of toiletries for the street kids of Montreal.
  • L'Abri de la Rive-Sud - collection of clothing and bedsheets for this Longueuil shelter for homeless men.
  • Christmas Basket Campaign - annual collection of food to create Christmas baskets which are distributed to local needy families
  • Answering requests for help from local individuals or families.
  • Pastoral Care - helping to stay in touch with members of our congregation who are unable to be with us.
  • Old Brewery Mission - organizing an annual visit to pay for and serve dinner to the homeless of Montreal.

World-wide Initiatives:

  • Amnesty International - Annual Write for Rights letter-writing campaign in December to support Human Rights Day.

The O&SA Committee receives numerous requests for assistance with various causes and reviews them for possible action or presentation to the congregation of St. Lambert United Church.

If you have any suggestions for the O&SA Committee, please call the office and leave a message.
